While here in hospital with Martin, I have extra time while he recuperates to knit and to read and to blog. I am still here to advocate for him and, help him when needed but he is doing so well on his own..what a blessing! So now I will take a little time to catch up on sharing a little of my sewing work.
In September, just before my miscarriage, I had bought, washed and made ready the fabric and the notions needed to make this maternity/nursing dress pictured on the front of Anna Maria Horner's Handmade Beginnings. After some little time after the miscarriage, maybe a week or two, I decided to go on with it altering it to the non-maternity version. I am so happy that I did, even though, I admit, it was hard to get started on it at first but, I have thoroughly enjoyed wearing it. I did make some alterations. The hips or the top part hip area of the skirt I cut too full for non-maternity so after the second or third time I wore it, I took it in about an inch on each side with my serger. I also cut the skirt shorter than the pattern to account for the fact that I am only 5' tall. It still has the cross top for nursing access but I feel with Anna Maria's fabric, I can wear it when not nursing. I love the feminine cut of the sleeves and the pleats at the shoulders and bustline. Her little details make her patterns interesting and special and modern feeling. I have made other patterns from the same book...the Quick Change Trousers for Tess and a couple of other sweet babies and the Away We Go! bag for myself but have not had a chance to photograph and post yet. I love to wear my new Mariposa dress with my chocolate brown leggings and new brown boots (not pictured). Thanks to my hubby for taking pics of me in my fancy new handmade dress!
I LOVE that dress! (but you already knew that!) Great pics, Martin! =)
