Six years ago, when I first became a mother, I thought that a half birthday would be a good idea since my first child was born two weeks before Christmas. There is just too much going on surrounding that wonderful time of year and to add the organizing and buying for a birthday to that is just too much for us and for friends. So, originally, my idea was practical and this is not a new idea to parents of little ones born around major holidays or religious celebrations.
But, in time I have realized other considerations along with the fact that a birthday celebration and the gifts don't have to be expensive...they just have to be from the heart. So as of last night, we shall have both. The 1/2 and the full birthday celebration for all! (that's my plan anyway)

So as of last night, we shall have both. The 1/2 and the full birthday celebration for all! (that's my plan anyway)One book helped me with what to do on a half birthday to make it special but not over the top. Just warm, cozy and thoughtful. It is just for our little family. I reference her a lot here in this space because I think she has such a great way of including her family in her creativity. I am always looking for ways to include my children in my creativity too.
Rather than a practicality, to celebrate a 1/2 birthday is an opportunity to express love and affection to a loved one by the whole family. What a gift. Something I hope they don't long forget in time. So I made a birthday crown keepsake to celebrate these half and full birthdays to come. Gun made his brother a mask and a card along with some other paper things (this was his idea on his own which I love to see in a big brother..or any child for that matter)

Needless to say, but I will anyway, the next morning, little Win regurgitated all his birthday cake. (We never should have said "sure!" to a second piece plus some more) I just tossed the rest this morning...it may have been the cake since M and I both had tummy rumblings we think are associated with the cake. Too much sugar? I just don't know..the ingredients were fresh of course...who knows....yuck. Win was fine afterwards fortunately.
Happy 3 and 1/2 Birthday Win!
I love you! -Mama

ReplyDeletei LOVE this! and being a child born on christmas eve i think it is a great idea! i remember thinking when i was a kid if only i could celebrate my bday in the summer. my parents would never go for it though. i'm going to think on this for us too.
remember dylin's keepsake crown? it got lost under the trampoline in a pile of leaves. so i'm going to make her another one just for special occasions and maybe one for play. i used the pattern out of my living crafts magazine for the idea for the girly flower. have you seen that mag? i think you'd really like it.
Happy 1/2 bday Win! We love you!
