A Pair of Red Clogs

Last week, our study of A Pair of Red Clogs was more conversational than the other FIAR books we have studied so far. This was a break in routine both for me and for G5 to see if the learning was as 'good' as with making a lapbook. I think the learning is there but the remembering part will be lost without the lapbook. I also think that lapbooking as you go through the week is crucial. Some highlights of the book study:

We did make one little mini book about the virtue of honesty (and a Japanese flag...I could not resist!). The central theme focuses on a girl being truthful and deciding not to lie to her mother. This is a poignant lesson for G5s age I think. He is only just learning what a lie is when he makes one. In other words, he does not know that lying is sin and it is wrong but I think may be more aware of it now. The mini book points out four verses in Proverbs on honesty. My favorite and probably the easiest for G5 to understand was, Prov. 12:22 'The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.' G5 does like to please and since God provides all good things, his warm bed, good clothes, food, toys..it is best to please God. In time, I can remind him of Mako, the little girl in the book and her decision not to lie to her mother. The highlight was a field trip to a sushi bar. A unique sushi bar in Spring, Texas called Sushi Sara named after the owner's daughter. It is the only sushi bar in Texas (that we know of, we take it from the owner) with a conveyor belt sushi bar! See it above W2's left hand. Why I put him on the inside of the booth next to it..I still don't know. He was well behaved even though you would think he would just be grabbing them and knocking them off. Guess he knows I would not approve at all!Yes, you pay attention to what is whizzing by, then just take the plate that you want to eat. The plates are priced according to their color so the waitress just adds up based on the empty plates on your table. I spent 30$ on myself and the boys on sushi with salmon and crab as well as some red bean and green tea ice cream. They used some 'trainer' chopsticks and T1 just sat in the booth, next to me in a really good booster seat. W2 enjoyed feeding her some watermelon. Well, it looks like they were feeding each other. Our friends, on a spur of the moment invitation, joined us for the fun which was a treat.
