Lost and found

This may be the best story of the year for me or maybe for a long time..maybe even...ever! Here is the back story.

In 2002, after being married for two short years, my husband lost his platinum wedding ring. The ring that I gave $900 for in 1999 which is a huge sum to me now when considering all the new priorities in our lives today. It was, to some, an ordinary value for such a thing but the best I could do for my darling husband to be when our love story began, well, and the fact that I had the best paying job of my life at the time made it easy to do! To others, pure luxury to be able to give such a gift. A real treasure to me. It was beautiful. Carefully selected by us together with the etched edges that I loved and reminded me of my father's wedding ring. M and I both are very sentimental and a little romantic. Buying a new ring was just not what either of us wanted to do. We wanted the one back. It left a little hole in my heart and a little anger in my head towards my husband. I have had to handle that one myself over the years and I did not always succeed. Anyways, when it was lost and, after weeks of searching and retracing steps and no luck, the desperate hope began to fade that we would ever find it. For all we knew, it could be anywhere...anywhere. We blamed a hole in his pants pocket. When I was expecting our first little one shortly thereafter, I asked M to buy a ring so I would not look like I was not wed when we were in public. He picked up a sterling silver one for $28 and I was satisfied. That one has stayed with him through thick and thin. I even wove a leather necklace to hold it and for me to wear when he lost 60+ pounds during cancer treatment in 2008 - 2009. However, deep down, I have always hoped we would retrieve the ring one day. Fast forward 7 or 8 years later to last Sunday.

M kept it from me for a whole day and I did not once notice his finger yesterday!

Here is the email I read this morning with the above photo attached.

Candy (gal who lives on the farm now with her husband) found it Sunday morning as she was walking the dogs...it was about 15 feet from the gate on the inside trail. She found it on the 16th of May. She called me yesterday and I decided to not tell you until today with a pix.....

to think that it lay buried on that trail for 7 years (or more), countless trucks, cars, bulldozers, semi tractor trailers with the Africa containers (50 tons) and animals all drove or ran over it and it took one rain to bring it to the surface and Candy saw the shiny end sticking out..... She said that had the dogs not obeyed and stayed at the gate, she would have been distracted and not seen it.

wow

My sister was making my nervous jitters melt away with laughter just before the ceremony and she captured it too..thanks sis!

I always said that I could imagine the next 20 or 30 years or more but not the first five. Now the first five feel like 5 minutes. Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary to my husband.
Continue to grow old with me, the best is yet to be.
