Thanksgiving Week

November 24, 2006, a new boy was born on this day. He celebrates his third year with a new fire truck with a ladder, breakfast with Mimi and Poppy with Shipley Donuts and hot Pero and, of course, a mylar balloon of a turtle with a party hat. I am thankful for his spirit and silliness. I always remember my babies births on their special day. That part I do not blog but treasure in my soul forever. ;-)

M and his brood of chicks.

Bright, bright camera light.

Today we read the history of Thanksgiving. The captain share the SAME name as my brother-in-law, Christopher Jones. He wanted G5 to call him 'Captain, My Captain' when he was born so now I guess, it is appropriate in a way. Yesterday got an early Christmas gift from the folks...pruning, weeding, re-mulching of the front yard. It is now officially, my paradise. (Did not yet take a pic) I was so excited for it that I barely slept the night before...
About Thanksgiving and homeschooling. I did not know that the Pilgrims did not eat turkey so now I wonder how we changed to turkey. They ate duck and seafood. They ate what they could grow..including cabbage. I saw a cooking show earlier tonight of a chef preparing a turducken. Interesting..strange, but interesting. Back to Thanksgiving. It is always fun to explain traditions, holidays to the children. It makes me re-evaluate them and decide what I want to share and what to leave out of it. It helps me not to take these things for granted. It makes me think of what I learned and forgot and now get to relearn. What a gift. 65 days in the bottom of a merchant ship to get here...to this free and wild place. I imagined that I was one of them for just a moment. To have that fire, that determination to leave all that is known to the unknown and hopefully a better life. Many were so sick from the travel and arriving in the harshness of winter, they did not survive. What a rebel spirit to do what they did back then..almost 400 years ago now. I wish I could talk to one of them over a cup of coffee.
Our friends, the Dees men as I call them, moved the behemoth t.v. up and the old t.v. down to the garage today. What a job. Must get them some Shiner. I am thankful for their friendship. If I could tell how many times I sit on the couch nursing and wishing to levitate furniture to where I think it should be...too many times to count. The Dees family spirit of unselfish service and wicked sense of humor is a treasure.
Tomorrow to Mimi and Pops for ham, all the sides and Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. Another memory from three years ago. When W3 was born, I ate a slice every day for a week after his birth. Warm memories.
Thank you Kelley, Rhonda, Marilyn and Sarah...mama friends I am thankful for everyday. You all touched my heart this day.

Happy Thanksgiving.
