My sewing and knitting::Spring/Summer

Kool-Aid Yarn: Kids Knitting by Melanie Falick

Handwinding of Lamb's Pride Bulky 85% wool, 15% mohair in White Frost colorway, into hanks for dyeing. Soaking in warm for sun and cold for stove.

"Mom, isn't Kool-Aid for drinking?" Me: "Yes, but we don't. It is better for dyeing stuff."

stove method

sun method

"it looks like food"... and, it smells wonderful!!

After air drying for some days, I began a knitted bear or bunny, not sure but more likely a cat/tiger. Gunnar is very into Calvin and Hobbes books so it will be a Hobbes and I already have legs made for a Calvin for Winston. Patterns for both are found in the same book called garter stitch dolls. We shall see how it goes.

I love my new bag! All I had to buy was the magnetic snap but I had all other materials on hand. Much better than buying a non-custom bag from Old Navy and making do or spending big bucks on a real diaper bag. Detour Diaper Bag from Make Baby Stuff. I did not use as much canvas as she recommends and think it is fine. I also top stitched everything to give it a more sturdy and professional look. The white polka dot pocket perfectly holds four water bottles for me and my three littles...perfect.

Last time I checked her Flickr group, this pattern, the Quick Change Trousers, is Anna Maria Horner's most popular pattern from her new book, Handmade Beginnings. The smaller the size, the faster they come together too. I can almost make them now without looking at pattern directions. This wee 3 to 6 month pair were made for my neighbor who just gave birth to her first child, a boy name Luca Francisco.

Reversible! Fabulous! Fabrics from Walmart, Hobby Lobby and the Little Golden Books yellow fabric from Alewives Fabrics.

My favorite new summer skirt pattern made from vintage Indian cotton picked up from Warrenton/Round Top area several spring times ago, a thrifted girls tee shirt and bias tape.
The Patternless A-Line Skirt from Boulevard Designs. She also has a maternity version here.

Nice comfy jersey waistband and easy care, wash and hang dry..finished with bias tape. Love this pattern..anyone can do this one with basic sewing skills but my serger makes fast work. I also made one out of black cotton jersey and have two more in the works..I love it!

Monogrammed skirt by Dana at Made...simple, sweet. Check out her other tutorials too..thanks again Cheryl! You always show me what I need to sew. ;-)

For Lilia's older sister's birthday from Bend-the-Rules-Sewing ~ Swing Swing Smock...fun, easy, and a little hand embroidery too. The basket of flowers on the pocket matches the fabric basket on the bike, sweet. Her mama said she was into arts and crafts so I thought this would be good to pop on for those projects.

I thought this mushroom fabric would be curtains in my breakfast room but found that the ageing, stained couch called for it more...a spring/summer update and I have loved it! The quilted pillow is waiting for another like it...that one is in the planning stages.

Soulemama's pillowcase dress from The Handmade Home...blurry phone pic of girl caught pilfering cough bon bons in my closet. The pillowcase is one of my sister's old Ralph Lauren ones from her teenage preppie years.

Towel rug from The Handmade Home made with a matching towel to the master set and an old pale pink sheet.

Traci made, designed by me by just using sewing experience, some fabrics selected by a friend, four years ago for this project! A nap pillow and blanket. I finally just wanted to do it one day...a very, very late gift for Lilia from her mama with a little doll I made with scraps leftover inspired by Wee Wonderfuls ~ Bonneted Baby pattern like I made for Tess for her 2nd birthday this year. As you can see, she thinks this is another one for her.

Quilt patching. Surely this is one our grandmothers did or called it...If I knew quilt history, I would know the term...but this is what it is...when you get a hole in your cotton bed quilt, just make a new pieced log cabin cotton square, back it and applique it on. I did several of these for the master bed quilt and plan to do more if necessary...until that one day I make a new king size quilt for the master....sigh....one day.

I have a pile of other mending that I need to do. I will likely decide not to repair some of it. I have other sewing and knitting projects in the works...maybe too many. But, I always love, love, to have projects in the wings, waiting for my happy fingers to dig in!!

  4. Thank you friends! I do use patterns mostly CallMom.co ;-) As my grandma would say, "well, you can use a recipe." when I would ask her if something I made in the kitchen was "good"?
